AdminHistoryThe Tower Hamlets Council of Churches was formed at a meeting of clerical and lay representatives of almost all the churches of Poplar, Bethnal Green and Stepney at Dame Colet House, Stepney on 3 February 1964. The first service was held in the parish church of Saint Dunstan, Stepney. At the service members pledged their loyalty to the Council.

It was a reflection or response to the wider reorganisation of the three metropolitan boroughs under the new London Borough of Tower Hamlets which took place 1 April 1965.
