The courtyard is decorated with bunting and there is a banner in the background (close to the brick wall which surrounds the courtyard) which appears to have the text 'Bless our King' in addition to a flag with a harp in the centre of it. The flag is possibly the Standard of the Kingdom of Ireland which would imply that the people in the image have a connection to Ireland and/or are of Irish origin/descent.
In the centre of the image is a line of trestle tables with children seated and standing on chairs arranged alongside it, many of them wearing rosettes in their hair or party hats. The table looks like it has been set for a tea party, with tea cups and a cake visible on it, in additon to decorations including flowers and British flags. The children are surrounded by adults standing behind them and also to the right of the table and a lady at the front right of the image is holding a garland of flowers. The majority of the adults in the image are female, although there are some males among them.
The image is likely to be either of a party to celebrate King George VI's Coronation which took place on 12 May 1937 or a party to celebrate Victory in Europe (VE day) which marked the end of the Second World War and was celebrated on 8 May 1945. |
