TitleTransfer of Poplar Methodist Church Stained Glass Window to Trinity Church, 1970s
Date(s)1976-1978
DescriptionFolder of material relating to the transfer of the Poplar Methodist Church stained glass window to Trinity Church, dating from 1976-1978. The stained glass window, of 'Christ the Burden-Bearer', was given by Mr Frank O Salisbury to Reverend Lax for display in Poplar Methodist Church approximately 50 years prior to the 1970s move. It was to be transferred as part of the activity surrounding Poplar Methodist Church's relocation to new premises at Trinity Church in 1976.

Although Poplar Methodist Church relocated to the Trinity Church building in 1976, the actual installation of the stained glass window was not completed until May 1978. This was because, due to the complicated nature of the work involved, Poplar Methodist Church needed to source additional funds to finance the work before it could proceed. The correspondence confirms that funds were successfully obtained from various sources, such as, the Joseph Rank Benevolent Trust and The Gibbs Settlement (now known as The Gibbs Trust).

The folder contained correspondence, related documentation and two drawings (by Edward D. Mills and Partners, Chartered Architects, London). For access and preservation reasons the two drawings have been removed from the folder and catalogued as individual items (W/PMC/4/4/5/2/2 - W/PMC/4/4/5/2/2). The remaining written materials have been catalogued as one item (W/PMC/4/4/5/2/1). The correspondence and related documentation provides context to the drawings and the reasons for their creation.
