At the front: a Charity Commission document has been attached, this is a scheme for the regulation of the charity of the Philanthropic Society in the Hamlets of Mile End Old Town and Mile End New Town in the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney, dated 3 August 1932.
Proceeding this the volume contains minutes of meetings of the Trustees for the administration of the Mile End Philanthropic Society Charity, also subsequently referred to as the meetings of the Trustees for the administration of the Charity of the Philanthropic Society and, in the final set of minutes, as a meeting of Trustees of the Mile End Old Town Charities: Philanthropic Society Branch. Meetings were held in the Parish Room, Stepney Rectory, White Horse Lane. The minutes are predominantly handwritten (apart from the last set of minutes which are typed) and date from 17 March 1933 to 25 February 1943, the latter were signed on 16 April 1943. Some minutes contain the names, addresses and ages of pensioner applicants and it is noted in the last meeting that 'the amalgamation of the charities would be desirable thus eliminating of the use of four sets of accounts and minutes' and agreed that the Clerk to the Trustees would write to the Charity Commissioners. |
