DescriptionNegatives and prints of the Finkleston (also spelt Finkleson) family of 292A Cable Street; copies of photographs probably dating from the 1910s through to the 1940s. Includes two news agency prints of what seems to be an injured Blackshirt, presumably from the Battle of Cable Street, and a print of Jacob Rechtman's bootmaking shop at 78 Cable Street, with the family stood outside. There is a photocopy of one of these photographs with brief notes on the family provided by Mr Arnold Schwartzman, grandson of Michael Finkleson and resident of Hollywood, California, United States of America.

Michael Finkleston ran a boot repair shop in Cable Street until at least the early 1930s. His children were Gertrude Black, Ben (the eldest son), Eve Stanfder, Rose Schwartzman and Harold (youngest son). Gertrude and Eve emigrated to the United States.

PhysicalDescriptionThese photographs were found in a large manila envelope marked simply 'photos'. The photographs and prints originate from Mr Arnold Schwartzman of California, whose family lived in Cable Street until the mid 20th century. It is probable that Mr Schwartzman sent this material to Jil Cove in connection with the Cable Street Group's research projects, and that it was then passed to Roger Mills.
