AdminHistoryThe Lawsons were a Jewish family who lived in British Street in Bow until 1940 when they were bombed out; the orginal family name was Lazarus, but this was obviously anglicised at some point, probably in the 1920s. The cartoonist in the family was Alfred Lawson (1914-?); he was responsible for creating most of the records in this collection.
CustodialHistoryThe papers were passed to the depositor, a relative, who looked after the longest surviving family member, Edwin Lawson (1920-2017), in his final years.
PhysicalDescriptionThe collection was handed over in a folder (marked 'Cartoons, Sketches, etc.') in no particular order. Some of the published cartoons were clipped to a cardboard mount; the staples were removed and the items remounted. A few of the very small loose fragments of papers were also mounted on special card.
