TitleMcCarthy Sketchbook
Date(s)20th Century (1959?)
DescriptionA mauve sketchbook filled with rough drawings. The book is bound with board and leather and is approximately twenty five and a half centimetres tall by twenty wide. In terms of the drawings inside this sketchbook contains a very wide range of sketches, from abstracts to religious drawings, miscellaneous doodles, cubist sketches and landscape paintings. However, there are no male nudes. There are no page numbers.

Due to the lack of male nudes it seems likely that McCarthy used this sketchbook very early in his career. Unlike many of the others it is completely full with no blank pages at the end, and the sketches themselves are not merely homogenous male nudes but depict a wide variety of subjects.

Number of Sketches: 109

PhysicalDescriptionCondition: This sketchbook is in very poor condition, both internally and externally. The front and back covers are slightly battered, and the spine is heavily creased and beginning to peel. Inside many of the pages have been discoloured as a result of paint and pastel colours rubbing off, and some of the pages have minor tears and scratches. One page close to the back has been torn out and is now loose.
