TitleMcCarthy Sketchbook
Date(s)20th Century
DescriptionA beige sketchbook filled with rough drawings. The book is bound with card at the front and board at the back connected by a metal spiral binder. It is approximately twenty three centimetres tall by thirty one wide. Inside is a collection of male nudes, portraits, still life and architectural drawings. There are no page numbers.

There are a small but surprising number of religious sketches included in this sketchbook, some at the front and some at the back. The sketchbook also opens with a quote from Rothenstein about the difficulties of pursuing eroticism in a society which rejects it.

Number of Sketches: 19

PhysicalDescriptionCondition: Aside from some slight discolourations the front and back covers of this sketchbook are relatively well preserved. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the interior, where many of the pages have become creased and puckered with age and moisture. One page roughly halfway through the book has what appears to be a ring-shaped stain left by a coffee cup.
