Where inquests where held on deceased inmates of the almhouses, verdicts are recorded (e.g. 2 Apr. 1831, inquest at the Spotted Dog, High St., on Amelia Bates, aged 11, 'servant in the family of Mr Smith, 3 Upper Buildings', verdict: deceased died ' in consequence of having accidentally ate (sic) a quantity of a poisonous plant called Monkshood).
