TitleHardbacked exercise book entitled "Loss of the Struggler" on the front cover and inscribed "Arthur William Carr" on the inside of the front cover.
Date(s)n.d. [1856-1857]
DescriptionScope and Content
The manuscript is composed by "R. W. Carr one of her crew. sailmaker". The manuscript, which is headed "Part I", contains quatrains 1 to 86 (with space left for number 66 which is for some reason missing) with several footnotes. There are occasional minor differences with the "original" manuscript (P/CWB/1/2). The manuscript is unfinished without explanation; the remaining pages are empty except for three on which are written by Ronald Carr-Webb aged about six in the 1920s, nine quatrains of a poem entitled "A Psalm of Life" learnt by his mother, Ellen Kate Carr, as a child at a Church of England school in Mile End in the late 1890s.
