Carr, sailmaker, who was shipwrecked along with his five fellow crew plus the captain and mate of the Struggler, a brig of 170 tons, of Aberdeen, laden with a cargo of linseed from Archangel, 14 Oct 1856, bound for Grimsby.

The vessel foundered off Russian Lapland shortly after. The survivors spent the harsh arctic winter on the shores of what the manuscript calls "Sweet Nose Bay" (probably Sviatoi Noss) . After many trials and tribulations, R. W. Carr arrived back home in London, reaching St. Katherine's Wharf, 23 July 1857. (contained on three folded foolscap sheets)
