| Description | An LCC Waiting List and Admission Register, stamped inside 'Mile End (0524) St Bernard's RC Central School, Damien Street, Commercial Road, E1'. The first half of the volume contains the waiting list, followed by an alphabetic index for the admission register and then the admission entries themselves. Admissions date from January 1929 - April 1946, however, there is a gap during the period of the Second World War and subsequently there are no admissions recorded in the volume from 19 April 1939 until the school reopens again on 13 September 1945.
The range of information recorded within the admission register includes: admission number; date of admission/re-admission; surname; christian name; address; date of birth; birth certificate seen; name of parent/guardian; occupation of parent/guardian; last school attended; last attendance at this school; reason for leaving; grade, class, standard or year - at entrance and at leaving; measles; exemption claimed from religious instruction. The entries are arranged chronologically by admission number, which corresponds to a chronological date of admission/re-admission.
At the back of the volume there is also a list of pupils and details about their attendance at/absence from processions, dated 1932-1938. There is also some loose material in the form of a pupil's school record dated 1935. |
