The majority of the volume has been used to record monthly expenses in a table format, including monthly, quarterly and yearly summaries and totals. However, there are some additional account records at the rear of the volume which date from 1881-1886. These include sections with headings by name re members of the Chalk family and others (e.g. James Jabez Chalk; Seymour William Chalk; E. S. Chalk; M. A. Chalk; E. Rumbold; John Gilbey etc) and a list of payments for Finland Wharf.
Information about the Whitechapel stationers and suppliers of the expenses book, N. J. Powell and Co., can be found inside the front cover of the volume. This label is notably ornate, with an intricate design including text and illustrations. |
