| Description | Five volumes with coloured covers and buckle fastenings. Three of the books are green, one is blue and one is grey, all five have an embossed title of 'F. W. Amount Book', followed by a date span.
The volumes each contain an embedded alphabetic index, within which can be found listings of client names and quarterly figures per year. The dates on the covers of the volumes correspond in most cases exactly, or in some cases quite closely, to the dates of the information recorded within the main body/alphabetic index section, however, there are several other sections towards the rear of each volume. These later sections record totals by quarter/year by number of customers, rather than by client name (e.g. amounts owing at end of quarter; total amount of business in ledger etc) and have a broader date span than the date span given in the title of the volume.
The respective colours of the covers of the amount books appear to correspond to the colour of a particular ledger (as specified in the totals listed at the rear of each volume). A system of blue and red marking has been used throughout the green volumes, whereby various sets of quarterly figures are frequently found to be shaded in blue or red. |
