| Description | Copy of The East End News and London Shipping Chronicle newspaper (No. 7968), Friday 22 September 1950 [published by the Proprietors, The Courier Press (London) Ltd]. The front page is annotated with the text 'Trinity Poplar 1950' and contains a photograph and short article entitled 'Great Day for Poplar' about the dedication service for Trinity Church. There is a further article on the same subject (on page 3 of the paper) entitled 'A New Trinity Church will Arise'.
The dedication prayer service was led by Reverend Alan Balding, of Trinity Congregational Church, and held on East India Dock Road, on the site where the church was being rebuilt (following its destruction in the Second World War). The church was completed and officially re-opened the following year, on 29 September 1951. Subsequently, in 1976, Poplar Methodist Church relocated premises to Trinity Church. |
