The oldest book in our Local History Library was published in 1583. It is an account of the interrogation of Edmund Campion, a Catholic Jesuit priest who was imprisoned in the Tower of London for his beliefs and later executed. The book was originally purchased and held at the People’s Palace on Mile End Road before being transferred to our collections.
