The introduction to the booklet is by the Church Minister, Reverend Douglas Wollen. During the introduction Reverend Wollen mentions that he will be retiring from active ministry in August, following six years at Poplar. He also takes the opportunity to introduce his successor, the Reverend Bryan Rippin. Reference is also made to the [Poplar Methodist Church's] 'close and happy association with that great Methodist institution next door'...'the Queen Victoria Seamen's Rest'.
