AdminHistoryThe Stepney Labour Party was formed in September 1948 as a result of the the Representation of the People Act (1948) by which the Stepney parliamentary constituency was created, replacing those of Limehouse, Mile End and Whitechapel and St. George's each of that had had there own Labour parties. There was already in existence a Stepney Borough Labour Party which was superseded by the new party.

The Stepney Labour Party ceased to exist in 1971 when the Stepney and Poplar constituency was formed and subsequently the Tower Hamlets Labour Party was established.
