Perrys or Mr Green at Chapel, a tollerable(?) sprinkling however of of modern hats & Bonnets. N.B.
Mr Woodcock brought my paper to collect ye Income Tax, & I was over char'd fifty four pds. It was
however a mistake, since my paper was deliver'd in; fifteen hundred pds of my fortune, left me by my
father, came to me on ye death of my bro. Sr Wm Wheler. this at 4 pr Cent. brings me 60 pr an. ye
tenth of which is £6.0.0. but instead of adding only 6. ye Commisioners have added ye whole sixty.
£(?). do they ever mistake the other way? I wish they would give me ye income they have tax'd! How
am I, & all things chang'd since thou wast preach'd last!" |
