The family arrived in the UK sometime between 1896 and 1900 from Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire. Joseph ran a Hebrew school and, later, was on the Board of the Old Castle Street Synagogue. Their family home was for many years in Grimsby Street, Bethnal Green. Ann died in 1918, a victim of the Spanish flu epidemic. |
