| Description | Four page letter from 11 year old Millicent Frost to her father, Herbert Frost. The letter is sent from Millicent's home in 15 Wallwood Street, Poplar, to her father in France, where he was serving during the First World War. Millicent writes to her father on topics such as recent events she has attended (e.g. the Lord Mayor's Show, a school trip to a production of Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice'); the reaching of peace terms; her father's homecoming and other local news. The letter was returned as Herbert Frost was already dead by this point, he died in France on 1 November 1918.
Millicent's letter is very touching, with a lightness, hope, humour and innocence which is made all the more tragic by her unawareness of the death of her father; he will never read her words or return from war to be reunited with his loving family. |
