TitleMcCarthy Sketchbook
Date(s)1959-1960
DescriptionBeige/light brown spiral-bound sketchbook. The book is bound with two boards attached to a metal spiral binder and is approximately twenty three centimetres tall by thirty wide. The sketchbook is discoloured on the outer boards due to splashes of paint. There are a wide range of drawings and portraits inside, including people, buildings and nudes. The pages are not numbered.

There are a number of buildings depicted in P/MCC/1/4. The very first sketch is of St. Paul's Church in Shadwell, and there are also images of the entry to the Limehouse Bocks and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Their names are given via purple bookmarks, which also give us the names of McCarthy's models as per usual; Alec Ayres, Paul Sheppard, Owen McCarthy and Terry Cowley.

Number of Sketches: 20

PhysicalDescriptionCondition: The condition of P/MCC/1/4 is very good. The metal binder is a potential concern due to the possibility of rust, but other than that the sketchbook is in excellent condition.
