May 15th Is in Blackwall journeys to Victoria Docks then goes to Shadwell where he attends meeting at British and Foreign Sailors Institute. Goes back to Blackwall. Discusses European affairs re Garabaldi, France and Russia.
May 16th "Swan" off Gravesend. He visits among others a large schooner bound for Australia and a large American built bark bound for Port Natal, South Africa.
May 17th Sailing past North Fleet- visits twenty ships and four barges.
May 18th Walks to a hill overlooking Greenwich, goes into "Mr Russell's park" which overlooks London and Essex.
May 19th Visits twenty-two ships and one yacht. One vessel the "True Briton" had an accident.
May 20th Back to Blackwall and then takes a train home.

August 1st Goes to Aberdeen Steam Wharf. In the steamboat he travelled on there were six carriages and ten horses belonging to Queen Victoria. Steams down the River to Gravesend.
August 3rd Sights land near Montrose. Run distance between London and Aberdeen in fourty-five and a half hours on board the "Prince Consort" steamer.
August 4th Sees five large whales, sees his first glimpse of the north of Scotland. Comes into sight of the Orkney Islands. Goes past Fair Island, Shetland Isles, Mousa Island, arrives in Lerwick.
August 5th Walks around battery. Visits Parish Kirk and Scalloway.
August 7th Goes to Tingwall Lock to fish for Trout.
August 9th Sees Major Shervington whom he describes as being the "first man to step on shore at the Alma and nearly the last to leave the Crimea at the close of the War".

August 30th On board the "Clarence" off Yarmouth.
August 31st Rough seas. Passes Southend pier. Arrives alongside Irongate Wharf. Goes ashore. Takes cab to Lombard street. Goes to Threadneedle Street then back to Deptford Dockyard. Encounters problems with the refitting of the Ship. Goes to Well Street, Whitechapel and Aberdeen Steam wharf.
September 1st Goes to Deptford. Travels to Upper Westbourne Terrace. Goes to London Bridge Station to take train to Brighton. Arrives at Sussex Hotel , Hove. Visits his parents. Looks through a telescope at the Moon and Mars and describes them as being "tolerably plain".
September 3rd Train to Worthing. Meets Revd. Cholmely. Train back to Brighton then goes to the Sussex Hotel. Travels back to London and takes cab to Upper Westbourne Terrace.

April 4th Leaves Matlock for Rowsley and then onto Bakewell. Goes to the hot baths. Drives over to Wormehill. Stays at St. Anne's Hotel, Buxton.
April 5th Takes carriage to Norton in Sheffield. Stays at the Principal Inn (Tideswell) and looks at the old Church. Takes carriage journey over the Moors.
