DescriptionA write up of the life of Bernard Collins, grandson of Councillor John Collins, a founder of Stepney Borough Council and owner of basket manufacturer at Spitalfields Market. This record of Bernard consists of brief descriptions of his grandfather and other family members, childhood memories, and details of Bernard's military service in WWII, including time in a prison of war. A large section of the records are made up of his later visits back to the area he was interned in and the reconnection with a German boy he had befriended at the prison.
Also included in this folder is a letter from Highgate Cemetery LTD with information about the grave of John Collins, his wife and oldest son Bertram (Bernard's father). Also a newspaper article from the Daily Express dated 20 May 2006 - 'Dunkirk: The Men Left Behind'.
