Note of December 1914 explaining that Clippingdale 'belonged to an old London family connected with the water for 300 years', that he was largely employed by the East India Company and is buried at Poplar, a light in the east window of the church there being dedicated to his memory; it also comments that the account book shows 'the large incomes earned by pilots at the beginning of the 19th century, e.g. for the year 1816 - £3149 11s 10d'. |
