TitleMcCarthy Sketchbook
Date(s)1974
DescriptionA very large green and blue sketchbook filled with rough drawings. It is bound with card at the front and board at the back, connected by a metal spiral binder. The book is approximately thirty eight centimetres tall by twenty six wide. In terms of sketches this sketchbook contains no male nudes, but does contain a very impressive array of landscape paintings, profiles and portraits. There are no page numbers.

As mentioned in the item description, there are a great many landscape pictures in this sketchbook. Most are very beautiful impressionist paintings of the countryside, though two depict buildings, the first being a painting of a church and the second being a detailed sketch of a large house in the Tudor style.

Number of Sketches: 18

PhysicalDescriptionCondition: In terms of preservation this sketchbook is in very poor condition. The front cover is creased, stained and flimsy, particularly at the corners. The inside of the front cover is also heavily stained; judging by the fragments of paper stuck to them they may be the remnants of an article that was once pasted there. In addition, the first and last pages of the book show signs of extreme discolouration and browning compared to the other pages.
