| AdminHistory | The school was established by voluntary subscription in 1714. It was originally founded for the clothing and educating of a limited number of boys born within the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town. In 1788 the charity extended its benefits to girls. The boys' school was situated in the Mile End Road and the girls' school at Stepney Green. The schools were subsequently known as the Stepney Parish Church Day Schools or the Red Coat School, Stepney.
