| AdminHistory | The Cedar Centre (whose company name is "The Neighbourhood Centre") became a charitable company limited by guarantee on 16th October 1989. For the period until 1st February 1990, the Centre operated under the umbrella of Toynbee Hall Families' Centre in Spitalfields. One member of staff was employed by the Cedar Centre at the Families Centre while the costs of the new Centre on the Isle of Dogs were borne by the new organisation as from 1st November 1989.
In February 1990 the staff, volunteers, trainees and users of the Families' Centre transferred to the Cedar Centre in Arden Crescent, part of the Timber Wharves Village. Since then the Cedar Centre has operated as an independent organisation although Toynbee Hall is one of its financial sponsors.
The Cedar Centre is a facility for local people and anyone else who wants to use it. It aims to give people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to help themselves and others through a variety of advisory, educational and social activities. |
