AdminHistoryMile End Old Town Residents' Association was formed in 1975, following the designation of much the area as the Tredegar Square Housing Action Area and also a conservation area. The Association covers the area bounded by Mile End Road in the south, the Liverpool Street to Norwich main-line railway to the north, the Regents Canal to the west, and Coborn Street to the east. This area contains about 650 households. The Association was formally incorporated in 1983. Its objects chiefly relate to planning matters and the improvement of the area but also to defend the rights of residents and foster and sustain a community spirit in the area. In respect of the latter the Association organises social events. These include a Fun Day every summer and an annual Christmas party.

In 1999 the Association decided to mark the end of the century by commissioning a photographic record of the area. From this evolved a publication entitled Changing Places; a short history of the MEOTRA area. This was published in 2001 with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund's Awards for All scheme. A reference copy is available in the Local History Library.
