AdminHistory | The Association had its origins in the Tower Hamlets Schools' Football Association, formed in 1888. In about 1913, athletics, swimming, cricket and netball associations were formed, but growth was halted by the First World War. In 1924, following a merger with the Bow Schools association, the name was changed to the East London Schools' Athletics Association. The Association's main activities were the organisation of inter-school fixtures and the selection of teams to play other associations at regional and national levels. A boxing section was formed in 1928 and in 1933 the Limehouse Schools' Athletics Association joined. In 1958 basketball and hockey sections were formed and in 1960, the rounders section. In 1972 the name of the Association was changed to the East London Schools' Sports Association better to reflect the breadth of its activities. The Association lapsed in 1986 just two years short of its centenary but was succeeded in the following year by the Tower Hamlets Primary Schools Sports Association. |
