AdminHistoryThe East London History Society dates back to 1952, when it was founded as the East London History Group. The Group was renamed the East London History Society in 1969. The fact that in its earliest incarnation there was a distinct Stepney Unit suggests that the Group may have had a federal structure and been made up of other similar units for Poplar and Bethnal Green, and also Hackney and Newham - the other east London boroughs which the Society was interested in.
CustodialHistory The Stepney Unit minute book was donated by Mr C. S. Truman in 1977.
