AdminHistoryWilliam Mitcheson, blacksmith and anchorsmith, was born in 1783 in Lanchester, Durham. He married Mary Moncaster on 9 September 1809 at St Anne Limehouse. They lived first at Ratcliffe before moving to Globe Alley in Limehouse. William Mitcheson's business focused on anchor-making but expanded to include ship chandlery and chain-making. The family owned a fleet of ships that sailed to North America.
William and Mary's son James Henry Mitcheson, born in 1820, a master mariner who had a daughter Sophia Ann born in 1849 at Limehouse. She later married William Henry Humphrey-Smith in 1871. They later moved to Holloway, Islington and she died in 1928.
