AdminHistory | Food rationing was introduced during the Second World War by the government in January 1940. Everybody was issued with a ration book. This contained coupons that had to be handed in to shops every time rationed food was bought. As well as the basic ration everybody had coupons each month that they could spend on what they wished. This was to ensure that people were limited in the amount that they could buy during food shortages. Rationing continued until 1950s. |
