AdminHistory | John Hunt (born 1897, died 15 July 1968) was an Air Raid Precautions (ARP) warden in Bethnal Green during the Second World War. He was present at the response to the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster in 1943 which saw the loss of 173 lives. The donor writes: 'according to my Father, the day of the 1975 ITV broadcast, he said my Grandfather stated that when the bodies were removed, there were no intertwined limbs or open eyes, all the bodies were stacked upon each other, with their eyes closed and looked as though they had passed away in their sleep'.
