AdminHistoryGeorge Reginald Herbert Hemsley was born 10 January 1896, Shoreditch. He was a local politician on the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green in the 1940s and 1950s. He also served as mayor of Bethnal Green from 1948 to 1949. He died in 1973, Bromley.
CustodialHistoryThe collection stems from two independent sources, both donated to Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives in 2025. The framed addresses of thanks and mayoral portrait remained with Mayor Hemsley throughout his life, evidently passing to his close friend Mr John Parker. The photograph album was retained within the Hemsley family, most probably passing to Mr Hemsley's brother Cecil Henry Hemsley.
