These diaries cover the last 11 years of Elijah Goff's life; he died on 6 June 1799, two weeks after the last entry in the second volume of the diaries (the Gentleman's Magazine for June 1799 reports his death on 6th June 'at his son's house near Epping'; the burial register for St.George-in-the-East records simply 'Elijah Goff, Broad Street' with no age given).

The International Genealogical Index lists the baptisms of 5 children of Elijah and Mary [formerly Mallard] Goff at the Scottish Presbyterian Church (later St.Andrew's) in Broad Street, St.George-in-the-East (it subsequently moved to Vincent Street, Mile End Old Town): Peter (1 Jan.1768), Elijah (10 Dec. 1769), Joseph (19 May 1772), Lydia (17 Feb.1774) and John (5 Mar.1777).
Vestry Minutes for St.George-in-the-East list Elijah Goff, coal merchant of Broad St., as one of those eligible to serve as a Trustee, (e.g. 5 Apr. 1789), and show that he stood for churchwarden on 3 Apr. 1790 but was not elected (see STE/168).
