AdminHistory | Samuel John Dingle was born 9 January 1877, Holsworthy, Devon, son of Samuel and Jane. According to the depositor, he 'walked from Newton Abbot when 14 years old, having been sacked (because he was 14 years) from the local clayfields. He was taken on to wheelbarrow coal.'
He joined the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green in circa 1901. In 1902 he married Edith Ellen Bougin in Bethnal Green registration district. In 1911 he is recorded as Assistant Engineer Mechanical in the Public Baths run by the Borough and responsible for engines and boilers in the washhouses. They were living at 14 Evesham Houses, Old Ford Road from before 1911 until after 1939. He retired in 1940 after 39 years' service.
He later returned to Devon and died in 1971 in Newton Abbot Registration District. |
