AdminHistory | Members of the Cable family lived at 41 and 43 Arcadia Street, Poplar, in the 1940s and 1950s. Ernest F. Cable and Agnes E. Cable nee Bell lived at 43 Arcadia Street. Ernest and Agnes had ten children in total, born between 1919 and 1940: William, George, James, Albert, Walter, Agnes, Margaret, John, Sheila and Ronald.
Brothers James (who lived at 41 Arcadia Street) and Albert Cable had a joint wedding at St Saviours Church in 1944, marrying Elsie M. Green and Kathleen B. Badham, respectively (see one of the photocopy photographs). John Cable (b. 1932), who is frequently mentioned in the annotations on these photographs, was a bus driver at Poplar in the 1950s. The Cable family evidently had a close connection with St Saviours Church and the Sidney Arms public house at 29 Arcadia Street. |
CustodialHistory | The photographs were evidently retained by the family and donated to Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives, probably in the 2000s. |
