AdminHistoryMrs Hilda Chamberlain Bazalgette (1910-1993) was a local historian. She was born in West Ham on 22 April 1910, daughter of Edgar William Hart, a bank clerk originally from Stepney, and his wife Grace Hart (nee Chamberlain), born in the Isle of Wight; there were at least two other children - Mercy Chamberlain Hart (b. 1905) and Leonard William Chamberlain Hart (b. 1907) (see 1911 census). Hilda married Edward Bazalgette in 1955; there were no children. Hilda died in Wandsworth in 1993. Brought up in Tower Hamlets (her paternal family, the Harts, were of Stepney), which may account for her long-running interest in the history of the area, she later lived at 7 Hilly Mead, Thornton Hill, Wimbledon, Surrey. She was an active member of Tower Hamlets Society and part of the Society's Buildings Group.
