Under the Act of 1865 the undertaking was leased to the Great Eastern Railway Company for 999 years from 1866. The need to widen the railway led to purchases through Stepney and Whitechapel.
The London and Blackwall Railway was later transferred to the London and North Eastern Railway Company from 1923 under the London and North Eastern Railway Absorption (No. 1) Scheme 1923. |
