TitleRecords of Hoare's Bank relating to property in the Tower Hamlets area
Date(s)1711-1838
DescriptionThese are records pertaining to the present area of Tower Hamlets extracted from the archive of Hoare's Bank. Even those documents for the Benson family of Bromley, relatives of the Hoares, seem somewhat fragmentary, but further deeds of Sir William Benson's estate trust, relating to his property in the Foster Lane area of the City, were transferred by the BRA to Guildhall Library, roughly contemporaneously with this deposit (BRA 2163). The Bensons' Bromley estate centred on Bromley House, the manor house of the upper manor of Bromley. It may also have included Bromley Old Palace, a fine early 17th-century house demolished in 1893 by the School Board for London when it acquired the site, to make way for a school.
