Yes The Pemberton Barnes Estates Company had its origins with John Barnes, a bricklayer from Whitechapel who in the 1780s built a terrace of houses in Mile End Road named Barnes Place. During the nineteenth century the company developed significant estates in East London and elsewhere. Among these were the "Cattle Lairs", Mile End, near Grove Road, the Barnes Place Estate, Mile End, the Rumbold Estate, Stepney, the Globe Estate, Mile End, the Bethnal Green Estate (Coventry Street/Three Colt Lane area), the Newcastle Street Estate, Whitechapel, the Devonshire Street Estate, Mile End, and the Globe Fields Estate , Mile End. From 1875-1973 the headquarters of the Pemberton Barnes Estate Company were at Park House, 29, Mile End Road. In the post Second-World War period most of the estates were gradually disposed of, the Globe Fields Estate being acquired by the Peabody Housing Trust in the 1970s .
