Contains a range of varied material, including: - 1898 Marriage Act Rules and Regulations (1909 revised edition) and related documentation such as memorandums and certificates; - Three black and white photographs (of church groups; church features and bomb damage in Morant St, Poplar); - Poplar Methodist Church programmes for events relating to the opening of the new building in 1933; - Pamphlets, press cuttings, invitations and other published material relating to 'The Mastership of Christ' film [later re-named 'Mastership'] starring Reverend Lax and other material relating to the film industry (e.g. BFI Film Bulletin), 1930s; - General press cuttings relating to Poplar Methodist Church and Reverend Lax (including press cuttings about his funeral) dating from the 1920s-1930s; - Two postcards, one of Cliff Edge holiday home and one of Mrs Lax c. 1930s; - Correspondence between Reverend Lax and Lewis W. Taylor, solictor, 1920. This consists of a letter from the latter to Reverend Lax dated 23 Feb 1920 re King George's Hall and a worship certificate. The tone is informal (Lax is addressed as 'Will') so they must have been on friendly terms. The worship certificate is also attached, dated 13 Feb 1920. - Correspondence from Mr S J Icely to Poplar Wesleyan Church, 1936. Includes two letters: an undated letter from Mr Icely regarding an advertisement in the Sunday Circle about an account of Reverend W. H.
