  <dc:title>Box Y Images</dc:title>
<dc:description>Ilford Photographic Paper box labelled 'Box Y', with a handwritten address label made out as follows: 'Attention of Mr E. H. R. Rozzell, Poplar Methodist Mission, East India Dock Road, London E14'. According to the stamp on the address label the sender is 'Central Library, Bancroft Road, London E1 4DQ'. Looking at previous handwriting samples of staff at Bancroft Library it is possible to confirm is that of Bernard Nurse, who was working at the library during the 1970s.

The box contains forty-eight images (forty-five photographs by W. Whiffin; three prints from engravings), many of which include descriptors/titles on the reverse. These images are predominanly of places rather than people, mainly images of areas; buildings (many of churches); streets; statues; monuments; signage; housing (e.g. prefabs) in Poplar and Stepney. There are quite a number of photographs of all aspects of St. Dunstan's Church, Stepney, including photographs of its interior, exterior, graveyard and even some of its records (a burial register). There are some photographs of the interior and exterior of Poplar Methodist Church and one of the Church's Foot Clinic. The prints taken from engravings are of the Chapel of St Katherine and Bishop Bonner, Bethnal Green. </dc:description>
