Preached by Dr. John Wheler, Chaplain of the East India Company Chapel, Poplar Sermon on the text "I have lived in all good conscience before God, until this day." (Acts chapter 23, verse 1) On the front is recorded a shortened title and "Poplar 27 Jan. 1795. Poplar 21 May 1797." At the end is recorded: "[???] Horsely 7 June 1795. N.B. went from Burwood. with Leonard & ye Ladys, and preach'd to a large party of Curries. Revesby 20 Sepr. 95. Woods & Wodekins there Mareham 11 Ocr. 1795. Mr bell ye late Mr Stephenson's Nephew breakfasted with me. Settled our accounts. & so ends all with poor Mr S. who receiv'd me when I came to Mareham, & continued a friend to the day of his death. Poplar 27 Decr. 1795. Walk'd to Poplar. the Perry family there. return'd to dine at home & met ye Miss Molonys. Mrs Watson & her two Boys (Mr & Mrs Rook in ye house) in ye evening Miss Basset and Chicken party. we old folk doz'd by ourselves, purring like so many old Cats. Alas. Alas. Age is not a season for delights! Revesby 11 Sep. 1796. N.B. the only sermon I had; my box sent to Newark instead of Lincoln, is not arriv'd. but learn from Mr Williams that it came to-day. came from Lincoln Race yesterday evening. and from our fishing party on Sunday 4th. but not in time for Church. Mareham 2d. Ocr. 1796. evening. pass'd ye morning at Mareham alone & comfortable Poplar 21 May 1797, return'd on friday from Wantage sick on Saturday, at Poplar on Sunday.
