Title deed relating to Devonshire Street, Mile End Old Town Covers land on the south side of Devonshire Street, Mile End Old Town. Lease from Mr Francis Machell (of Upper Shadwell), butcher, to Mr Nicholas May (of White Horse Street, Stepney), surveyor, dated 8 April 1818, the lease is for a term of ninety-nine years. Also includes an Indenture, a Surrender, between Mr Andrew Lyons (of Burghley Road, Leytonstone), a house agent, and Mr Arthur Henry Leatherdale (of Leatherdale Street, Mile End), a gentleman, dated 19 August 1916. The Indenture also mentions a previous Indenture made between Charles Jones and Charlotte Barber, of the one part, and Andrew Lyons of the other, dated 28 February 1901. This Indenture vested to Andrew Lyons the land on Devonshire Street outlined in the lease of 1818 and premises at Nos 220; 222; 224 and 226 Devonshire Street and Nos 1-7 and 8 Mays Buildings for the remainder of the lease. Another Indenture dated 9 February 1912 between Selina Dorothea Machell and Arthur Henry Leatherdale is also referred to, for the premises to be passed to Mr Leatherdale, the new freeholder. The Indenture of 19 August 1916 confirms Andrew Lyons agreement to surrender the land and premises (as previously outlined) to Arthur Henry Leatherdale and the latter releases Mr Lyons from his lease agreement. Includes a small plan on the top left margin of the first page, and the document is annotated and underlined in pencil in places. There is also a stamp from the Land Registry Middlesex Deeds Department which reads: 'Memorial of the endorsed Deed dated 19 Aug 1916 registered 25 Aug 1916' and refers to 'Book 10' (and a reference number, partially readable). 1818-1916
