Diary of Arthur W. Hart of 46 Burdett Road, Mile End Old Town Day to day diary contained within the printed pages of Pettitt's Narrow Foolscap Diary for 1887. Including his employment at 89 Gower Street under a Mr Catherwood, concerning contracts and accounts, and his prolific evening engagements and activities. He notes brief weather reports, the books he is reading, his letters written by himself to various peoples and the matters contained, as well as the replies that he receives from them. Many of these letters, as well as acknowledgements, receipts, invitations and programmes to events that he attends, are glued within the separating pages of his diary. He notes personal events as well as general public events such as the Royal visit of Queen Victoria to the People's Palace in May and the Queen's Jubilee in June, as well as the Sunday School outing to Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex in July. Hart is involved with various Institutions in the Stepney area. He is Superintendent of the Stepney Green Schools and the Red Coat Schools and teaches at the Stepney Church Sunday Schools. He is involved with St Dunstans Church, St Dunstans Institute, the Stepney Relief Society and is Chairman of The Childrens Industrial and Floricultural Society. He attends many meetings of the various committees attached to these Institutions, as well as other local gatherings such as the Tower Hamlets and Stepney Conservative Clubs, the Primrose League, St Dunstans Temperance Society, and the Association of Lay Helpers of the Diocese of London. There is correspondence between himself and other members and secretaries of the Committes, Church Groups and Institutions he is a member of, including: Robert Howlett of 493 Commercial Road, R. Lamplugh of 13 Portland Street, Commercial Road, Edwyn Hoskyns, Rector of Stepney, H. Bullwinkle of 66 Beaumont Square, the Secretary of the Stepney Schools, and P.C. Adams of 10 London Street, Fenchurch Street, the Treasurer of The Childrens Industrial and Floricultural Society. There are some first drafts of letters, with crossings out, written by him included. There is also much correspondence concerning events organised by himself such as the Flower Show in July and Evening Concert in April for The Childrens Industrial and Floricultural Society, of which he is the Chairman. 1 January 1887 - 22 August 1887
