Copy will of Robert Holmes of Shenfield, Essex, shipwright, 1754 Copy will made 24 Jan.1754, with letters of administration (1777). In the will Holmes leaves property to his wife Elizabeth (whom he appoints his sole executrix) during her lifetime, directing that after her death it is to pass to the children of his late son John Holmes deceased, or to the children of Edward Skinner of East Tilbury, Essex, farmer, according to her wishes as stated in her will. The property specified is as follows: (a) A cottage or tenement called the Carpenters Arms at Blackwall in the parish of Stebbing Heath alias Stepney, occupied by 'the Widow Wram' and to which he was admitted, as is recorded in the court rolls, on 3 April 1734. (b) A messuage or tenement 'which I now live in' at Shenfield, formerly called the Eagle and Child, plus a brick cottage nearby, occupied by Thomas Capon. Witnesses: Sussannah Oddin, Charles Bravington and John Fitchatt. With Letters of administration (26 Apr.1777) attached. These grant administration of the estate of Robert Holmes, deceased, to Edward Skinner and Mary Skinner, widow, who are the executors of the will of Edward Skinner, deceased (who in turn was executor of the will of Elizabeth Holmes, widow, deceased, the executrix of the above will).
