TITLE L/THL/J/1/1 consists of evidences of title to former London County Council and Greater London Council properties throughout Tower Hamlets. The majority of the deeds in L/THL/J/1/2-16 are likely to have been inherited in 1965 from the predecessor local authorities, the London Metropolitan Boroughs of Stepney, Bethnal Green and Poplar, but clear evidence of official custody is lacking until, between 1974 and 1977, they were transferred from Bethnal Green Town Hall, a place of storage for the entire Tower Hamlets Borough, to Mile End Library.
