AdminHistory | In 1963, in anticipation of the creation of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the Joint Co-ordinating Committee - Stepney, Poplar and Bethnal Green was established, providing the means for the three constituency Labour parties to co-ordinate the election campaign, etc. for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. This was succeeded by the Tower Hamlets Local Government Committee. In 1972 following the reduction of constituencies in the Borough from three to two, an all-purpose borough party was established, The Tower Hamlets Labour Party. In 1983 a decision was made to revert to two sovereign constituency parties with borough wide co-ordination being undertaken by the Tower Hamlets Local Government Committee. |
